Wine Exchange in January

Welcome to Winter and unpredictable weather! Can you believe we had ice on Monday and today it's 65 (break out the shades).

Trying to book a last minute place at Christmas and add to the mix an unpredictable number of attendees has been challenging to say the least. So in light of all that we will have our "Dirty Santa Wine Exchange at our January 5th meeting. I will let you know the location soon.

Don't forget Russ's invite: "They may be booked for parties but they don’t turn away bar business. Anyone have suggestions on a rendezvous for a drinkiepooh?" Contact Russ if you need a break from shopping!

Be safe and enjoy the holidays,
Peggy

What is the 40/50 Group?

Saturday, June 21, 2008

Do you wonder about what the 40/50 group is? Well, it's NOT a single's group, though many of us are single, we have some fun couples too! It's not really a networking group, though many contacts are made. There's no "meeting" or "agenda", just a group of people who come together for social interaction. We drink, eat, laugh, discuss, and plan events for weekends and trips and so on! What more can I say? Our group is very diverse and you will meet people from a wide array of backgrounds and interests. Married, single, older, younger, it really doesn't matter, you'll find a very welcoming group to socialize with and who knows...you may meet a companion, and you just might meet your new best friend! December Activities

Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year! I know everyone has a December that is packed full, but add these to your list. On December 1, Flamingo Row is hosting us with delicious appetizers (on the house)!! Can you believe they were very happy to have us, but then again we are a terrific group!

Then on December 15th, we will meet at Tribeca and have a "Dirty Santa" wine exchange. We set a limit of $15 for the wine. This should prove to be very interesting...do you want the nicely wrapped one or the one wrapped in a newspaper? We'll have the rules that night.

Get in the holiday spirit and join us...bring a friend.

Merry Christmas,
Peggy Allgood

Always fun at Whaler's Catch

Hey All,
Sorry I have been without my PC for several days! I tried to send an email about Monday's meeting, but my email was not working on Sunday then my PC went visiting for a few days so I did not have a distribution list! Come Monday at work...our email was gone! (I've been lost)lol

Anyway Monday night group was a small gathering, but big on fun as always! Needless to say the food was delicious. We meet upstairs...no flies to contend with and very cozy.

We will be at Cynthia's on November 3rd and then on November 17th Pasta House is hosting a wine tasting and appetizers for around $5 just for us!! Thanks to Janie Smalley for setting this up.=)

Enjoy Fall,
Peggy

May 10: Lowertown Band Brawl!

Six hot bands will battle it out in DJ Urban Kobbb's 2008 Lowertown Band Brawl, 3-6:30 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at the historic Texaco station at 7th and Madison streets. The brawl is sponsored by iList Paducah and the City of Paducah.

The top three will perform at the Lowertown Art and Music Festival on Sunday, May 25, from 2-4 p.m. They'll battle it out again there, competing for cash prizes. The winning band takes home $1,000, with the second-place winners receiving $500 and third-place winners receiving $250. DJ Urban Kobbb will spin tunes between bands.

Here are the bands competing on Saturday, May 10:

The American Freedom Machine, 3 p.m.
Edging Kelli, 3:40 p.m.
Please Standby, 4:20 p.m.
Noazark, 5 p.m.
The Union Suit, 5:40 p.m.
Special D, 6:10 p.m.

Check out their bios and photos!

Judges include Hooper from Hooper Booking and Promotion; Adam Shull, entertainment writer for the Paducah Sun, Darris Shelby, Just Us Entertainment and Mary Thorsby of iList Paducah. The Carson Center's Chuck Tate will emcee the event.

"The Band Brawl is exactly the type of thing I love to see happening for our town," says Hooper, a recent iDate of the Week. "Paducah did such great things for local artists with LowerTown, and I think that the city and its musicians can have that same great friendship. Seemingly little things like this are actually the huge events that can establish the next decade or so of how our musical community will prosper or flounder."

Everyone is invited and encouraged to come to the brawl. It's free, and it's guaranteed fun. Plus DJ Urban Kobbb (above) will spin tunes between sets!

Sunday, May 4, 2008

Second Saturday in Lowertown!

Bands will compete for cash prizes and the opportunity to play at the festival. It is from 3-6:30 pm. It is Second Saturday and there will be a lot of things happening in Lowertown.

Monday, April 7 at Cynthia's

Everyone is invited to join in the next 40/50 Group gathering, 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 7, at Cynthia's. Bartender Brett Duwe opens just for us, so please stop by and say hello!

Welcome!

Welcome to Paducah's new 40/50 Group blog. This is where you'll find the scoop on our fun events, photos and other area news that might be of interest to busy and vibrant folks who make Paducah such a special place to live and work.

I'm Gwen Taylor, executive director, Bellewood Presbyterian Homes for Children. I returned to my hometown of Paducah last year after living in Owensboro and Louisville. I was pleased to find the Twenty Thirty Group here, and as well as several new friends and old who were interested in forming a similar group for those of us in our 40s and 50s.

So after lots of emails and free publicity on ilistpaducah.com, here we are!

The 40/50 Group is a group of really great people who get together at 5:30 p.m. the first Mondays of the month at Cynthia's (Brett Duwe opens the bar just for us!) and the third Mondays of the month at Doe's. So if you're in your 40s or your 50s, or you're older or younger, and you're looking to expand your circle of friends or your business networking efforts — or both! — this group is for you!

Please join us. Everyone is welcome. And who doesn't like a glass of wine on a Monday afternoon anyway? If you have any questions, just send me an email. We hope to meet you soon!

Cheers! Gwen
